About the Specialist

IMG_0451 (1)“I LOVE POTTY TRAINING!” I may be the only person who will ever say that and I laugh a little every time I do. My name is Ashley Hickey. I am a Potty Training Specialist and the owner of Successful Potty Training, LLC. Potty training is my passion and I am great at it. I am determined to help families with this necessary life skill. Often, parents will ask “Can my child be potty trained?”. They have tried “everything under the sun”, with no success.

I have been potty training children of all ages and abilities for 22 years. After graduating from Northeastern University, I was clinically trained in Applied Behavior Analysis at the Emory Autism Center, where I worked as a preschool teacher and a family provider. My potty training experience began at Emory.  When I relocated to Connnecticut with my family, I realized there were no potty training services. That’s when Successful Potty Training was born.

Although I specialize in training children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, I have potty trained hundreds of children of all abilities. I have become an expert in potty training by training children with developmental delays, visual impairments, hearing impairments, Apraxia, Dyspraxia, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Seizure Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Creatine Deficiency Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Mowat Wilson Syndrome, WAGR Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome, ranging in age from 2 to 18.  Over the years, I’ve worked with families throughout the United States, in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Jersey, Delaware, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, Texas, California, Arizona, Washington, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC and, internationally, in Canada, Australia, Spain, Russia, England and Romania. I frequently travel throughout the United States and beyond to potty train a child.

I recently wrote and published a guide titled TIPS FROM A POTTY TRAINING EXPERT: Getting Your Child on the Right Path to Potty Training, which can be found here.

I have been featured in Parents Magazine, NewParent Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, Care.com, BabyCenter, Howcast and Autism Support Network.

In addition to being a potty training expert, I am a wife and mother of 3 children in Hamden, Connecticut.
